Learning Statment

What have I learned from the children?

I learned kids are resilient and adaptable in their learning and that it goes smoothly when educators are ready to adapt with them. When we listen and watch what’s going on kids show us how they are feeling, and if paying attention we can advert undesirable behaviors or situations.

I also learned kids like routine and don’t usually like a whole lot of change. When it happens though the whole class can be affected .

What did I learn from my practicum mentor?

Alan was a great mentor . Always ready to answer my questions, and ready to aid in help when needed. I learned that when I wasn’t able to deal with a situation, that I could rely on him for help when asked. As I knew I wasn’t trained to deal with the student

Alan was always great reminding that each day and each student was approached with kindness , and compassion that everyone has a story . Pretty sure if wasnt for Alan I would not have made connections with some of the nuero-divergant kids. I am honored to say that I learned a lot and would be happy to go back and do another practicum under Alan. He is a extremely amazing soul, and is great at what he does.

2 Goals for next practicum

For next practicum I’d like to teach kids some skills in beading . I find beading a great way to enhance eye and hand co-ordination . Also very therapeutic and nice way to decompress.

My other goal would to bring my guitar to class and do songs. I loved learning through music and actions. Be such a fun way to engage with the kids and learn in way that gets them off their chairs and have fun.
