First Day of Practicum
The first day of practicum I arrived at the school early enough that the front door was locked, and no one was there yet. While waiting for Mr. Alan to arrive I felt anxious, yet extremely excited to see the children, and to see what practicum is going to hold for me. Will they remember me? Did I make the correct connections, or do I have to start all over again in getting to know the children? I could not wait to find out!

The morning, I began by turning on the lights and taking down the chairs off the table. Afterwards I proceeded to turn on the kettle for hot water as the before school care program serves oatmeal, breakfast cereals such as Chex and Cheerios, and Nutri grain bars, and milk. Another important task is taking documenting on the attendance sheet. I have to pay attention to what time the child arrives and the time they leave the child care program.

The first child to arrive is S.C. Her father brings her before he goes to work. I had the privilege to have some one-on-one time as she’s the only child there till about 8:00 am. I discovered that S.C. loves to do step by step drawing. S.C. picks up the drawing book, some paper, pencil, and pencil crayons. I decided to chat with her and see if there is anything new going on in her life? S.C. mentioned that March 14th was her mom’s 1st day at her new job at the dentist office.
