The before school and after school care staff alternate 2 weeks morning shift (7:30 am- 2:30pm) on then 2 weeks of afternoon shifts ( 10:30 am to 5:30 pm) . We are now on afternoon childcare shift. The afternoon program we get to spend a tad bit more time with the children and have more opportunity for outdoor play. This afternoon Mrs. John purchased a lot of kites for the children to play with .
In this program there are children here from the ages 5- 9. Some of the children were able to fly the kite with ease. while some of the younger children struggled to manage the rope and co-ordinate running at the same time. I decided to help N.M. she is the youngest child that attends here. so I decided to hold the kite and a bit of the line while she ran with it . Took more than a few times. Scafolding was a helpful tool that lets you help the child, yet gives the child a bit of independence and confidence to do eventually on her own. Was a fun way to connect and get her involved in playing and learning to do something new. I did have an idea for the next afternoon to build on Mrs. John’s invitation of play with the kites.
