Day 4 At Cayoosh Elementary

DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY

A group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society.

So upon picking on community for my class project I asked myself why i picked the topic. We have all heard the saying ” it takes a village to raise a child.” I am a believer that it does take a village. Here are some examples of what one’s support( villagers) could be. Some of these ‘villagers’ include: Educators, Immediate and extended family, Friends (your child’s and yours), neighbors. Children and i also discussed that community is also when people have similar interests and hobbies.

Community is also a part of the Early Learning Frame work.  Community part takes in a number of areas  in the living inquiries . In example  such as  Well being and belonging, engagement with others, materials, and the world, Identities, social responsibility, and diversity are a few too list of hand.

What Is Community To You?

K.F was asked ” what does mean to you?” K.F. replied “community to me means we help each other out and you find a way to solve problems and we learn a lot about each other. ” S.R. response was also insightful. “community is when people help each other, and live near each other. ” I am fascinated by this children’s response. This E.C.E courses has opened my eyes to see and hear the children as smart individuals who have a lot to say. We just need to listen .

Community Support In The Classroom

I was asked to do some one-on-one with K.S. He was in the in between a good mood and a bad mood. Before things became a power struggle we went and did our math work sheet in the before/ after school care room. I communicated that if K.S. does a good job he can have free time and free choice of what to play with. K.S. was elated and mindful of his time . He completed his math task and headed to the magnetic tiles. I asked K.S. to help me make the fire truck a station to sleep in. Master builder K.S. called me over to come look at his creation. ” Look what i made!” I patted him on the back and said ” I see the truck has an awesome bed to sleep in !” Sadly our math block was over and was time for the next activity before lunch. It is nice to be available to help adapt the program to help facilitate the children. The school does it’s best to be inclusive and adaptive to the students.
